Our printer is finally ready to start using color management, and has now
started to experiment. His equipment is a bit unusual though: he already
owned a Gretag SpectroEye and wants to use that device instead a buying
something new. The fact that he has to manually read each single patch
doesn't bother him.
He's managed to hook it up to a colleague's PC running ProfileMaker, via
serial interface, and plans to buy a Mac with ProfileMaker once
everything is proven to work. I haven't seen any results myself yet, but
he told me that the first tests are looking good.
Since I haven't seen the SpectroEye mentioned on this list, I'd love to
hear your opinion. Is this device indeed suited for press profiling? Any
pitfalls we should be aware of?
Unlike other devices, you can change all sorts of things via its own LCD
display. Could that cause problems with incorrect settings (for instance
color temperature), or will ProfileMaker simply take over and make sure
everything is measured correctly?
