Roger,
I did see the post, however I'm not familiar with Gracol TR-004. Isn't
it a printing standard? If so, are your suggesting we print to Gracol
standards and use a general profile such as Web Coated Swop V2 (or
whatever profile is used for Gracol). I'm not sure if the Approval is
Gracol Certified, but i know it is SWOP certified and we do keep our
densities and dot gain numbers within SWOP standards. But we do not use
the Web Coated Swop V2 profile. Is there really something wrong with us
using custom profiles for our proofer? we haven't had any negative
feedback since we implemented this workflow, i'm just worried about how
the profile i'm using now will later effect the press considering the
issues i described in my first email.
Thank you,
Vanita

Richard,
We don't have a press. I guess you could say we're the "middle man".
We
can handle everything from input to proof, but after that the client
takes it wherever they please. What we supply the client is an
Approval
proof and a cd containing the 2 versions of the file; one tagged as a
ColorMatch RGB and one a untagged CMYK file. We also include our
Approval's profile on the cd. It would probably be easier if we had
the
press's profile, but that can be any number of vendors and some of our
clients aren't always sure what the file's resolution should be much
less who the file will go to.

So there couldn't be no harm tagging your CMYK files with a Gracol
TR-004
profile? That would set some kind of working ground level, at least.
And
your proofing could target that as well, just like the gentleman who
posted
last week who said he was trying to proof Gracol TR-004 on his
Approval.
