Vanita,
To me it all depends where you're starting from.
What are you separating to, right now? Are you getting your CMYK
images drum
scanned or doing your own color conversions from Photoshop?
We have an RGB workflow. Our images are either digital captures or drum
scans. Before printing to the Approval, we convert the file in
photoshop to our Approvals' profile.
Well, it's like the Kevin Costner movie: if you build it it will come.
Seriously, I heard a lot of time and effort has went into the
development of
that standard. If anything I wouldn't dismiss it.
So, you're saying we change our standards (density/dot gain settings)
to Gracol, and then create a custom profile? It's pretty much what we
have now except we're using Swop.
Sounds to me that the Approval being SWOP certified is right for you
if your
work revolves aroung the web offset world. But if it's designed from
the
ground up for sheetfed maybe it's time to take a second look at
proofing on
an Approval. Unless you say everyone you've sent your jobs to have
never
complained about having difficulty matching the Approvals you send
them.
Then I think it is a moot issue.
We haven't had any complaints about images separated with our custom
profile and printed on the fortune gloss paper (the paper we originally
used to print the target that the profile was created from). I'm just
wondering about images printed using this profile on a whiter paper.
For instance, if I'm printing from an Epson on Enhanced Matte using the
Premium Glossy paper profile, the image won't look as good as it would
if I'd printed it on Premium Glossy Paper instead.
Did you say you were using a custom built Approval XP4 CMYK profiles
for
separating to and, obviously, proofing?
XP2. Yes, we built custom profiles for the Approval. We convert to it
in Photoshop before saving the file and sending it to the Approval for
proofing.
Thank you,
Vanita
