I think they solution to this situation is education. If all the students
are aware of why a monitor is calibrated and why they need to be left
alone then you might not encounter as many problems. Maybe even make it
part of the class..have each student calibrate their own monitor? Some
monitors can be locked down...many Sony models come to mind. The LaCie
ElectronBlue/Blue Eye system is clever in that it locks down many of the
OSD menus when the digital connection is used. So...there are a few ways
to minimize people noodling around with the monitor settings, but I still
think the best approach is education.
As far as the projector is concerned you may want to look at the new iOne
Beamer by Gretag MacBeth. This will allow you to calibrate your projectors
reasonably well...and certainly better than nothing! If I am not mistaken
I believe Gretag MacBeth offers a discount for educational use.
