Greetings

ICC has provided a great way to "optimize" a file for different press conditions. I can fingerprint a press, create a profile and use it at our Epson to produce a proof that exhibits both the hue of the inks and the gain of the press. In the past we would read the scales to determine the gain, create a LUT or DGC and compensate the file in that way.

This is great for CTs. LW however is another story. I can "cutback" my CT with ICC, I cannot do the same for LW (very well.) So I need to extract gain info from the profile. I can get Dot Gain data from my profile application but is it any good?

I am beginning to suspect the dot gain data I get is no good, it is consistanly higher than traditional readings. I trust the profile to work, but fear I cannot get valid data for creating LW cutbacks.

I was wondering how others might be dealing with this.

thanks
Dane Carlson
