I'm scanning using the Photoshop File>Import>TWAIN function, with an Epson
3200 scanner. I've played around with various settings and have found that
when the scan opens in Photoshop, PS does not seem to apply the color
settings policies. In other words if you have color settings set to "ask
when opening" and scan with no color management set in the scanner driver,
the file opens in PS without a missing profile warning and therefore without
the opportunity to assign and convert on opening the file.
What I've found works best in my case is to turn the RGB color management to
"off" and open an untagged document thru the TWAIN driver, then assign the
custom scanner profile I made, then convert to Adobe RGB which is my editing
space. However, when I save a document handled in this way, the Embed
Profile box in the Save dialogue box is unchecked, and if I don't check it
each time I save, the file saves as untagged RGB.
I have three questions:
1. is there a way to get the PS color policies to apply when scanning via
TWAIN?
2. is by basic approach, outlined above, essentially sound?
3. is there a way to get the Save dialogue box to show the embed profile box
checked by default, even if the RGB color settings are switched to "off"?
(PS: photoshop 6.0, Windows 2000, Epson standard driver in "Professional"
mode)
