Hmm, you know one thing that helps in understanding this is to not
confuse the default display's profile with the Default RGB Profile.
default display's profile - the profile of the default display, which
is just your display if you have only one. If you have more than one
display, use ColorSync Utility to set which one is the default display.
The profile here is the profile currently assigned to that display.
Default RGB Profile - value of a popup in ColorSync Utility, accessible
through ColorSync calls or via Applescript. The notion of having
default profiles for rgb, cmyk, and gray space is still supported and
apps can make use of it if they like, however none of Apple's apps use
these.
