OS9 ICC not working in OSX

I recently switched my scanning computer to OSX and I had custom ICC profiles made for the scanner when it was running under OS9. When I apply these profiles to scans in OSX, there is a dramatic difference in color. I will be making new profiles soon but I'm still curious as to why this happens?
