Terry noted that
the loss of the light black in the 10600 didn't have a detrimental
affect in a proofing workflow. Would the same hold true for the light cyan and
light magenta inks?
Of course you can't do without the light colors
without sacrificing the smoothness of the dot pattern in the lighter tones, but
since the colors can be mixed to make gray, the light black may be
superfluous. It just makes calibrating tougher and a rip to control things all
the more important.
We use a 10600 with Ultrachromes
which we've profiled with a rip for proofing on DuPont's proofing
paper, and the results are great. In my opinion, the lack of a light black has
no effect on the results if one is tightly calibrated.
The biggest problem we've seen in using this system
is the metamerism failure of the yellow Ultrachrome ink. Strict lighting
conditions for viewing the proofs are critically important as a
result.
