Good point. Although I can't straight out confirm or disprove this, I can say that our target output and our proof output have are as close a visual match as any proofing system we've used prior. I would think if that if colors in between test values remained the same or got worse, we'd see banding to some degree, which we don't.

<I'd take the results of the 2004 IPA Color Proofing RoundUP with a large grain
of salt. There were a number of flaws in the evaluation procedure, not the least
of which was using four different instruments (none being the same as the one
used for the original measurements, and different as in, different manufacturers
and models) used to do the evaluation. Having seen how (say) a Spectrolino
differs from a DTP41, this is not the way to determine margins smaller than
2 Delta E..>

Another good point...the difference between the ICColor and the Spectrolino is a little tighter however, and if they had used the Spectrolino, we'd still be waiting for the results ;-).  The results of the Roundup showed only a weak correlation between colorimetric and visual matching, However, my personal experience of measuring the target and proof with the same instrument, show that a low delta E does indeed correlate with a good visual match, although tweaking the profile here and there still occurs.

....anticipating the inevitable delta E vs delta E CMC/94/2000 now  ;-)
