Hi Roger,
Here is some data on the standard fluorescent evaluation tubes from GE,
Sylvania and Philips.
Philips Lighting Colortone 50 Degrees Kelvin: 5000 Color Rendering Index 92
General Electric Chroma 50 Degrees Kelvin: 5000 Color Rendering Index 90
Sylvania Design 50 Degrees Kelvin: 5000 Color Rendering Index 90
Some manufacturers of lighting equipment select special tubes and prevent
the light output at the ends of the tubes.
These 'selected' tubes are more expensive that regular ones. Of course,
this is only valid for the tubes and does not specify what the color
temperature and light evenness on the surface of the print evaluation table
will be.
That depends on the reflection characteristics of the aluminium reflector,
glass panel etc.
The combination of light, light output, spectral output and distribution
determines how they meet the D50 specs. And of course the influence of the
surrounded light. So the manufacturer of the light booth has a substantial
influence but also your conditions in your studio or plant influence the
lighting quality.
Regards, Henk
