I haven't noticed this problem with GMG. After the first or second iteration the paper simulation usually falls below 1 delta E and is a visually acceptable match. In fact, one of the things I like most about GMG is its ability to change the paper shade. To do this I create a copy of the original profile and enter the new target Lab of the paper, run a few iterations to dial in the new paper shade. The resulting CMYK can then be added back to the original profile through a color value correction feature, which can calculate the result throughout the rest of the profile. This has proved to be pretty accurate at matching different paper shades as well as matching the target printed on that paper.

Using a large custom target may yield as good results, I can't say for sure...yet. But if one were matching TR001 or DTR004 for example, the target data is already complete using the IT8 or ECI, so you would have to use the same target. I can't speak for Color Tuner but I've already stated my support for GMG's visual match.

Yes..each press sheet measurement can be exported as a text file. When all press sheets are measured, importing multiple text files will average the values. I forget how many you can average, but it more than anyone would actually measure.

you to.
