This is the announcement info on basICColor L*
- new, more user friendly, "wizard" style user interface
- new patented L* calibration guarantees for an obvious quality improvement,
particularly on LCDs
- automatic hardware calibration via the standard DDC-CI interface or EIZO´s
proprietary digital interface - currently only supported on Apple Macintosh,
under Windows this will be available in one of the upcoming software
releases.
- Validation of the current calibration (Delta E)
- Gray Balance Calibration addresses and corrects problems associated with
monitors that are non-linear accross the tonal range
- White Point Adjustment: ability to visually optimize the white point
- Build 8-bit or 16-bit LUT profiles or matrix profiles
- Create an ICC monitor profile according to ICC Specification Version 4
- Supported instruments: Avantes Spectrocam (Mac only), basICColor SQUID,
EyeOne Display, EyeOne Display Version 2, EyeOne Monitor, EyeOne Pro,
Spectrolino (Mac only), Monaco Optix XR, Sequel Chroma4 USB, Sony Artisan,
X-Rite DTP92 USB
- Brightness adjustment on CRTs either visually or with measurement-based
controls
- New, more user friendly licensing via the internet.

Can you give some details on the L* calibration? I understand it's an
alternative to gamma calibration.
