Profiling the Epson R800 ?

is there any way to get decent ink limitation on the Epson R800 on the mac ?
I profiled one with i1 Photo but altho i got neutrality the profile is
unusable in practice because of lack of gradation in light colors. The
testchart prints looked the densest I've ever seen.
