Alright, here I go again. If these questions suit another list better, let
me know, as I didn't want to cross post.
I'm nearly through RWCM 2nd Ed. and understand far more now that I have in
the past. Here is my setup:
Workstations to AWS Nexus with an option to drive my BestScreen Proof to
Epson 7600, or to send one bit tiffs to our new Latran Prediction 1420 dot
proofer for proofs for customer who just plain won't take a inkjet proof
(plus I can laminate to press substrates.) Our presses (ast least what I'm
focused on right now are MarkAndy 2200's 10" and 7"., we are mainly flexo).
I understand the principles of getting the press and Epson profiled so that
I can use them as output profiles. However, I'm a bit stumped on how to
place the dot proofer into the setup. With a ROOM workflow, I'm setup to
drive the dot proofer as with the Best-Epson, as in using the same rip
data. However, it seems to me that although I can generate a profile for
my press, (which right now, does not have gray balanced as I would like),
there is no way to generate a profile for the dot proofer, or rather there
is, but there is no way to apply it. Or is there? Would it not seem to be
correct to get the dp to be as "off" as the press sheet, then would an
output profile assigned to the job which is run through the RIP and which
then drives the imagesetter and the proofer make them match? I assume this
is somewhat reasonable, since the press and the dot proofer are both using
actual dots, with CMYK ink sheets would closely match the densities of the
press ink (however, not perfectly, which is part of what makes me unsure of
this workflow design.)
And of course, both presses have different gain as well. ( I use flexocal
for this, and am now using hybrid screening for quite good highlight
results on press.) Side note, i have GM's eyeOne, and Profilemaker 4.1,
waiting on the upgrade to 5 to come in.
Okay, thats all my brain can hold right now.
Thanks guys.
