We have a Roland HiFi FJ500 8 color proofer using pigment inks. For paper we are using Roland's PSBP Semi-matte, which is one that Roland recommends for proofing. For a RIP, we are using the latest version of Colorburst's Prepress RIP, which supports Hexachrome printing. For profile building, we are using ProfileMaker 5.01, with multichannel capabilities.
What I am trying to do is build a HiFi (Hexachrome) proofer profile to use with our CMYK press profile. All of the proofer color outside the CMYK gamut, I want to use to expand the color gamut for Pantone colors, which I would process through the RIP with Lab values. For the press profile I used the ECI2002. For the proofer profile, I am using the MC Hexa from ProfileMaker.
The problem I am having is that I keep getting a proofer profile that clips the press profile in the red area. I have adjusted the gamma settings and ink settings in Colorbusrt, and tried various settings in ProfileMaker, but I still can't get that proofer profile large enough. I made a profile of the ProfileMaker reference file, and when I compare it to the proofer profile, the Deltas are way off.
Do I need to try a different paper? Do I need to switch to dye inks? Is there some optimal setting in ProfileMaker? Do I need to change the settings on our DPT41? Is my setup unattainable? Is it better to suffer the slings and arrows that life is heir to, or to sleep, bechance to dream, no more?
