Could I ask for some advice on generating profiles using Best
Colorproof with a 9600.
Thanks to terry for his useful advice on Best colorproof 4.6. Now
having got to work on the machine I found it was version 5 installed so
I have created a base linearisation using the lintool and an i1.
At the risk of asking an obvious question, can the Epson be profiled as
an RGB device in this setting? I tried to print the 9.18RGB file but
received an error stating that the RIP required a profile to calculate
RGB and Lab files. I am assuming that it can only proceed using a CMYK
test chart. With this in mind I printed the ECI2002 CMYK chart.
I am hoping to print RGB and grayscale files to this unit an do my
color management in Photoshop but it looks like I will have to convert
to the CMYK profile and print with Col Man. deactivated in the RIP
using the baselin for the profile as Terry described last week.
My question is, what separation settings should I use in PM5.0 to
obtain a large color gammut for RGB printing and a neutral result for
grayscale.
The stock is Epson Satin 250 gsm, printed at 2800x1440, using
Ultrachrome inks.
I have not had to build a CMYK profile before (working mostly in the
RGB world) so am a bit at a loss as to what GCR setting to select,
black max, CMYK max and black width to select.
I am only looking for straight printing of TIFFs, not for simulating
any press environments.
I made one profile with the preset Inkjet 400 (GCR3, K=100%, CMYK=400%,
black start 40%, black width 100) but it seemed to clog up the shadows
a bit and produced a bit of red banding in the lower tones of a grey
ramp.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Regards
Simon
