Well it does a better job <g>. Desaturate isn't a very good tool for color
to B&W conversions using an old "recipe" to mimic panchromatic (I think Tri
X film). When I originally tested a rich gray profile, I did this on a
Macbeth color checker (24 patch). Getting all 24 patches to separate in B&W
is no easy task. I've been able to do this with the Russell Brown dual
Hue/Sat technique he invented with a good deal of tweaking. The Rich Gray
profile got real close out of the gate.
