Well I don't agree and I think many, many users over the years have proven
this to be a bad idea. I can see the recommendation for 5000K for some
papers. Calibrating to a 1.8 gamma does nothing more than ensure more
banding in previews compared to a 2.2 (or better native) TRC gamma of the
display.
