You could do that, but if you choose to edit images while in RGB, a
working space is a much more stable environment. That actually was my
former workflow as I followed the "less conversions the better"
philosophy, but I found that even slight edits resulted in non-uniform
behavior while working in my scanner space. For example, simply
adjusting highlight values slightly caused loss of detail and color
casts in high key areas. Utilizing a working space was a very big
improvement for me, but your results may vary. ;-)

ECI RGB is TRC/Matrix based.
