Have you tried Ektachrome space as a working space?

It was developed specifically as a working space that contains all the
colors an Ektachrome can produce to prevent the very clipping problem you're
having. I find there is still a very small amount of clipping in the newest
(more saturated) Ektachrome emulsions -- mostly highly saturated
blue/greens, if I remember right -- but it's much better than, say Adobe RGB
and isn't so overly large that it would cause other problems.
