For my work, it's proven time and time again problems are solved by working in 16 bit. I don't really care what the rest of the community thinks about it, or feel the need to prove it. In the time it would take to put together meaningful tests and get them out to everyone that could provide useful and reputable feedback, I could have gotten a lot of work out the door, and some of it may have been done in 8 bit as well. Whatever is appropriate for the task. For some stuff, I'd take more bits if I could get them.
I think everyone on both sides of this argument are incredibly accomplished and well intended. I just don't understand why there are sides at all on this issue. This has been going on for years.
