One of the huge limitations of the ICC approach is that it matches color one pixel at a time. That's not how we view images.

 The profile precalculates the same compromise for every image-it
 ignores the image content and just pays attention to the spaces in
 which they reside. That's fine for blowaway cards or widgets on white
 seamless, but it leaves something to be desired for high-end work.

Are your comments valid for every step of the color food chain?

No, for relcol conversions from input space to a working space large enough to hold the input, it's a non-issue.
