I'd recommend profile only. Set the brightness to a comfortable level,
midway or a bit higher. My powerbook is about 18 months old and I have
the brightness set at about 66 percent, auto dimming disabled. I use
1.8 on the powerbook with native white, profile only and it works
pretty good.
Good luck,
David

Hi,
I've been spending more time with digital photography so I'm trying
to get up to speed on color management. I have the original 15"
aluminum powerbook which had the white spot problem so I recently had
Apple install a new display. After getting the new display I used a
Monaco EZ XR to do a calibration profile.
Running the Monaco calibrator I opted for 2.2gamma and a dim (night)
ambient setting. During the brightness step the calibrator software
was directing me to turn the brightness way down - 6 out of 16 dots on
the Apple brightness setting. I did another run in a day-lit room with
a bright ambient option and still the calibrator was directing me
toward the 12 of 16 brightness setting.
I'm new to this but still wondering why the calibration software
would want my screen so dim. Is this common - or did I miss something
in calibration? Seems like the display manufacturers have been trying
to produce brighter LCDs with wider contrast ranges. So, wouldn't
using a dim brightness setting curtail the capability of the display.
thanks for any info, -den.
