Try converting from your working space to your monitor profile. Then
preview that image in your browser of choice. If it looks like a
reasonable match to Photoshop, then there's no color management
happening in the browser app; it's effectively simply assigning your
monitor profile to the image (or sending the RGB values directly to
the display, however you want to interpret it).
So, the question is: what the heck is the color space used by these
browsers? It's not sRGB; it's not anything like GenericRGB or AppleRGB
either. What profile describes the way these browsers interpret
color in any
given image? How do I stop chasing my tail trying to find out a way
to make
RGB files look the same in Photoshop and in these browsers?
Of the four browsers I have on my system (Firefox, Explorer, Safari
and OmniWeb), three of them are color-managed. Those are Explorer,
Safari and OmniWeb.
Of course on the Windoze side, all bets are off. :-)
Cheers,
Terry
