I have been following the thread since I made a post a few days ago and it
sure seems that most everyone is making a bigger deal out of this ( there
fore making a grayscale profile harder to create).
As I pointed out and so did Ken, averaging of the printed dot values might
be necessary. But it you wanted more data to sample, why not create a test
strip with say 30 steps for the black ink. Use steps like 1,2,3,4,5,10,
15, 20, 25,30, 35, 40, 45,50,55,60,65,70,75,80,85,90,95,96.97,98,99,100. Or
if you wanted it to be easier use GMB Measure Tool to create a 50 step lin
target for the black and use that.
Then print the target. Then measure a dozen printed sheets and average
them. Then find the 13 steps that you ( from that data ) that will be used
in Photoshop to create the black icc profile. I am sure you will get
accurate data very quickly that will produce high quality black and white
results.
But that's just one persons opinion.
