Hello list members,
I am just about to build-in new heads into my good
old Epson Stylus Pro 5000. After playing around with a
brand new 4800, I am in the mood to do a switch to
alternate pigment based inks for the 5000.
After Googling around, I found 2 sets:
MISPRO of inksupply.com
ColorVantage of Pantone
Does anyone here in the list have experience with that inks
or good links to other pages? My main concern is in proofing.
Thanks in advance

As you probably know the 5000 is a dog to do maintenance on.
Any pigment ink on that printer generation may ask for many
cleaning cycles and the occasional exchange of dampers + the
waste ink box contents. That's alright with the 9000/9500 as
all components are easier to clean and exchange. Not so with
the 5000. The only pigment ink that may give less trouble is
the original Epson Archival ink that had a lower pigment load.
Like it was used in the 5500, 10000CF, 7500, 9500. But that
pigment ink lacked gamut, black Dmax and had a lot of metamerism.
What may be a wiser idea is feeding the 5000 with the newer
Epson dyes that show more fade resistance with suitable
papers. You only need to exchange the yellow + light magenta,
the rest is like the old Epson dye inks. The 10000 and 9600
dye carts are the most economic source for that Epson dye ink.
There are equivalent third party dyes too.
I think you will have to refill the carts in all cases as
there are few third party manufacturers that have the 5000's
twin carts. I have made a CIS (now obsolete) for a 5000 to
feed it with the newer Epson dye ink. In the end that resulted
in too much fungi/bacteria in the bottles and so blocking of
the dampers. So not a good idea either.
