Yes, I understand what you are saying, but in my experience, photographic
printers, such as the Lambda and the LVT, require much more detail than
screened devices. If I want to achieve good quality on the Lambda or LVT, I
must scan at higher resolution than output resolution in order to hold all
the detail that the grain of the film captures.

Eh, Mark,
a Lambda is a photographic printer that projects a (three) laser(s) on
photographic emulsion at 200 or 400dpi. No linescreen involved, thus no
multiplication factor. If you want the size you want you NEED to have 1:1
resolution - or interpolate the data to 200 or 400ppi.
