That version of Match did not force gray balance at the videocard level, so OS grays still varied, even if Photoshop grays did not. The most recent version (as well as the most recent versions of ColorVision's Spyder products) does balance the grays at the video card level improving desktop matching, especially of neutral gray backdrops, which is what most serious color users have on their desktops...
