Dear
Marco:
I read your original
posting on the ColorSync list, as well as C. David Tobie's reply, and I just
wanted to offer Pantone's perspective on the issue.
The PANTONE ColorCue
is designed for users to be able to measure a color, and return the closest
PANTONE color to the measured sample. The user is then able to scroll
through the device, and obtain various data, including CMYK*, RGB and L*a*b*
values. However, it is important to note that the data provided is
provided by a lookup table within the device, and it NOT pure measurement
data. As such, it should not be compared to data that would be provided by
a more sophisticated device that is providing measured
values.
*CMYK values are
provided for the PANTONE solid coated library only, as the data is reflective of
the values contained in the current version of the PANTONE solid to process
guide coated.
Further, we do not
recommend use of the PANTONE ColorCue as a strict quality control tool.
Rather, it should be relied upon to provide a 'starting point' color.
Users should always refer back to the printed PANTONE formula guide to determine
the suitability of the color match provided by the PANTONE ColorCue
device.
I hope this
adequately clears up the issue for you. Please do not hesitate to contact
me if you require further assistance.
Best regards,
John Stanzione
