Title: ColorSync inconsistency in iPhoto
Hello list,
I wondered if someone could explain the logic behind the following scenario in the latest versions of OS X and iPhoto.
If you bring an image with an embedded profile ie sRGB or Adobe RGB from camera/card into iPhoto then:
if you go straight through iPhoto to Photoshop the embedded profile remains the same.
If you edit in any shape or form, iPhoto changes the embedded profile to Generic RGB without warning.
There seems to be no warning or control over this conversion in iPhoto
Changing profile in ColorSync utility Default Profile makes no difference.
The actual RAW support brings in RAW files then if you edit or even double click the image
then iPhoto converts it to a jpg and replaces the original image in the window. All without
as much as a warning! Strangely enough the original RAW file is still kept buried beneath
iPhotos image library hierarchy....
(last point is off topic but I felt worth including)
I would have thought that with more and more people trying to familiarise themselves with Colour Management
for the first time these days, this kind of undocumented behaviour would have them giving up at the first hurdle.
This all seems to me like a very bizarre way of going about things but then who am I?
Regards,
Pete
