If you check "Apply Output Preview Settings" in the advanced print dialog, it goes from the simulation space to the printer space. The simulation space is, by default, the working space (unless there's an output intent, in which case that becomes the simulation space). You can change the simulation space in the output preview dialog.

This is consistent with how Rips operate that don’t use a Source profile for CMYK (only RGB); there is just a Simulation Profile that is also the Source Profile for CMYK. So, it’s Simulation to Output/Paper Profile.

I think that by the weekend, I NEED to do some test. I have ALWAYS printed my Ink Limit, Linearization and Profiling targets, from Acrobat, using ‘Same as Source’ – disabling all CM. Build Profiles and did the Color Conversions in IQueue; then printed the final results from Acrobat with the same ‘Same as Source’ setting. This method is Bullet Proof. (However, STILL manually changing the working space (If I did not instruct IQueue to embed the profile, e.g., DeviceLinks)  to the proper Destination space for preview/soft proofing purposes.

Once I start doing the conversion with Acrobat, I have to admit; I’ve not had a iron clad stance on the Apply Working Spaces setting but I do remember [Chris] one time where I profiled two printers, one simulating the other and got a great match. When the customer tried the print, the results were bad. When I went back in and checked the settings of the reference machine, the only difference was that the Apply Working Spaces was deselected; selecting it brought everything back in-line., i.e., Saved my A** <smile>

I will let you know the results of the testing for v6 and v7

Thanks for sharing your experiences Peter,
