Are you saying that there is a Mac somewhere at Apple that *doesn't* convert
a cropped (or otherwise edited) image to Generic RGB?
This just looks like a programming screw up in iPhoto.
The only way of stopping it from happening seems to be to delete the Generic
RGB profile!
This has to be done as root and is worth doing just once to see how
dependent the OS is on this profile whether you choose to use it in your
ColorSync prefs or not :-)
The iPhoto interface looks rather odd without it - as does the rendering of
the Photoshop CS Tools etc etc etc...
