Color Manglement in InDesign

I need some great suggestions about profiling through InDesign. As an
example, no matter how I set up a target, tagged, untagged, and color
managed or uncolor managed in InDesign what I get is a dense and
undersaturated target compared to printing the same target, same as source
through Photoshop. If InDesign is not color managing anything in the print
stream by either having adobe rgb content and adobe rgb print destination,
or having cm turned off why is the target being modified. On another note,
if I export the target as a pdf and print from Acrobat the target looks like
the Photoshop target.
I must be missing something.
