Over the past few years we've had to retire our PressView monitors.
We replaced them with a variety of monitors:
With calibrators:
21" Barco PCD 421
21" NEC MultiSync FP2141SB
Using Eye-One Pro:
23" Apple Cinema Display
24" Sony GDM-FW900
The color on all of them are reliable for color-critical work. The
noticeable difference I've seen is between LCD vs CRT technologies.
Dust-busting is significantly easier to perform on the CRT and text
looks closer to the printed piece. The LCD is hands-down the easiest
to read, however, and we use them on all our editor's workstations
and for office and administration computers.
I like the Sony for it's resolution and real estate (the 24" CRT has
the same image area as the Apple Cinema Display). Unfortunately, this
model is no longer available from Sony. Apparently, these were on the
market for only a short time.
The NEC is basically the same as the LaCie (they both use the same
NEC/Mitsubishi CRT). There's just something about putting a blue
frame around the image that goes against the grain of everything I've
been taught about color perception--Rule No. 1, keep your viewing
environment neutral.
Hope this helps your decision,
Richard Frederickson
It is finally time to retire my venerable old Radius PressView monitor. I
am doing color critical photographic imagery in Photoshop, and calibrate all
of my monitors with the Eye-One and Eye-One Match. I am considering the
LaCie 321, Eizo FlexScan L885, or an Apple Cinema Display. Any advice or
experience you can share, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
