>Any advice would be appreciated on profiling an Imacon Flextight 949
using Flexcolor 3.9.3 I am particularly interested in setting the start
point for scanning a Hutchcolor scanner target. I have identified and
turned off the auto shadow and highlight, turned off unsharp masking
(set to -125), I have also set the colorsync input profile to non and
turned off the convert and embed profile function.
Also ensure you disable the shadow and mirror options in the Setup. Those
are easily missed.
>What I am concerned
about is the absence of being able to set a Dmin and Dmax value.
I must be missing something, but what do you expect to set there? Those are
measurements of density, which is a function of your scanner. Higher the
Dmax, the higher the density it's able to capture. Nothing to set. You've
already invested in probably the best scanner short of a drum.
>There
are two other options I have not previously experienced with other
scanners - There is an option to set a gamma value (default is 2.2)
What have you calibrated and profiled the rest of your environment to? Gamma
2.2 is typical. Just be consistent.

a 'Dot' function that allows a value for highlight and shadow for each
RGB channel from 0 to 255.
That allows you to set your black and white points for the output file from
FC. You might want to set those to say 10 and 245 if you're printing, and
can't push a 0 black point (which no output device can do) but for this
sake, 0 and 255 are fine. I never use the DOT function and instead rely on
setting those in PS once an output target has been identified.
>Thanks in advance.
You are welcome. I used to profile the 848s with tremendous success, using
the Kodak targets and GM ProfileMaker Pro mind you. Good luck!
