Initial setting for Epson 2200

I am confused about the initial settings for printing profile calibration
charts on the Epson 2200. It appears that there is a "base profile" - called
Epson Standard, or EE231__1.ICM, and then a paper/ink profile is applied on
top of it, such as Epson Premium Glossy Photo Black - SP2200 Premium
Glossy_PK.icm. I may be wrong, but this appears to be what it is doing.

I speculate this is the case, because when I "convert to profile" in
Photoshop, using the SP2200 Premium Glossy_PK.icm, I believe (in theory)
that I should be able to print that image though the "no color adjustment"
setting and have the color come out correctly, but it does not.

When I print the i1 TC9.18 RGB chart using "No Color Adjustment", I have
selected the paper type as "Premium Glossy", but the chart comes out very
blue overall. When I select "Plain paper" the chart comes out looking fairly
accurate compared to the monitor, but it produces a very poor profile -
quantized, green overall.

Can anyone cast any light on this subject? Am I correct that the 2200 uses
two profiles in combination? If so, how does one create a custom profile for
it.

Thanks,

Mark Rice
