I was taken back at first with the L* gamma. I don't think it represents a
true colorimetric representation of an image going to print yet indeed makes
a type of perceptual representation onscreen of real film or print. Since we
know that the print will never really look exactly like the screen being
that today's printers exceed most screens I find it puts the viewing
experience closer to having a film onscreen. It's not like throwing caution
to the wind but it is somewhat risky for prepress use as it is a little
flattering compared to a weak offset output. If your printing on a HP DJ or
Canon you'll be printing closer to what you see. Rather nice option in my
opinion but prepress users be aware.
