Once again I am totally confused by color management, just as I thought I
was starting to get a handle on it.
I have spent the afternoon doing lots of test files. One thing I did was
have PhotoShop 8 and 9 open at the same time and now 9 is behaving the same
was as 8 was.
But that is not the least of it. If I take a file and go through the
conversion process I talked about earlier and reopen an offending file but
apply the same cmyk profile to the now untagged image it looks fine but if I
open it with no profile OR use my press profile the image again has the
yellow shift. However, as best I can tell the percentages seem to be the
same on all the files; and yet it I send a yellow one to the RIP it comes
out yellow while the other ones work fine.
I am really confused. I am wondering if some preference in PhotoShop on this
machine has become corrupt; does this sound possible? It is just so strange
that if I convert the file twice on this machine (OSX 10.3.6) it comes out
okay or do it once in PhotoShop 6 on the OS 9 computer it is okay.
By the way, both the yellow file and the good file look the same in
PhotoShop 6. There has to be a conversion taking place somewhere that I am
not finding. Any help would be appreciated.
