Somewhere in between Hanging & running uncalibrated plates to GRACoL
Densities and then tweaking for 50% gray balance (a=0, b=0)
and
pulling/selecting sheets that come closest to that neutral gray to average
and build a profile,
there is a methodology for adjusting the CMY curve to the black printer
I am 'guessing' that after the CMY curve is adjusted to itself for neutral
graybalance from top to bottom (just the 50% was neutralized on press,
right?)
Then the NOW complete neutral curve is adjusted to the black curve (CMY to
K to match Dot gain from top to bottom.
If this is correct than the second part, neutral CMY curve adjusted to
match the black, I'm ok with in CTP curves, but the first part
(neutralizing the CMY top to bottom...well, How in the World.... How do I
do that?
Colorgate is the only company that I have ever seen do this
(automatically). At the end of there linearization process they have a
process that neutralizes CMY (equal parts CMY from about L18 to L96), in an
iterative process)
It works pretty well but I know not HOW they do it.
In about a month or so, I would like to try this calibration process and
would appreciate some guidance/advice that could help make this successful.
