This question of brightness (and my Apple Cinema Screen 20") has been in
my mind, ever since a friend, who bought an Eizo said that
the Eizo rep had told him
to set his Eizo to 85.
I know that, my i1 Match software recommends to set my ACD at 140.
I've also read where someone else set their's at 120.
So, what does all this say about my images
(made beautiful via my ACD)
then viewed on an Eizo set at 85?
Should they still look the same
Is this merely question of numbers, like profiles?
An LCD set to 85 c/m2 and use in very dim, prepress conditions, and one used in somewhat less dim ambient light at 120, and one used at moderate light at 140 should all offer pretty similar viewing results. You just can't view them side by side... as the eye can only adapt to one light level at a time.
Personally, I find no longer having to work in the dark to be one of the liberative factors of using LCDs. Along with not needing air conditioning in my office to combat the heat CRTs give off, and gaining back a lot of deskspace, when the pregnant cows are no longer lined up around my work area.
