Hello List,
There has been a few words back and fourth regarding the Pulse ColorElite
System lately, so I thought I'd chime in to clear a few things up.
The basic system comes with the DTP20 (that's the spectro), the Pathfinder
(the track that the instrument rides in) and a USB cable through which the
device can be connected for "live measurement" (as with the EyeOne), can be
used to download on-board color measurements when measuring remotely (my
preferred way to measure), and is also used to charge the Pulse via a
trickle charge. The pathfinder contains cross-hairs on either end which can
be used for spot measurement for owners of ColorshopX or Quickread.
The software gives the user options to calibrate displays, scanners, digital
cameras, output devices, and contains both a profile editor and a profile
evaluation tool called Gamutworks.
The entire system is available with or with the OptixXR instrument (in case
you already have one), and support RGB output devices (desktop inkjets, RGB
light-based devices) in all configurations.
Users can add CMYK output profiling to the system - in which case it will
support the ECI target - as well as a selection of CMYK "Monaco targets" -
in addition to retaining all of its RGB output profiling capabilities.
Whether using RGB or CMYK, the Pulse ColorElite system builds our highest
quality ICC profiles, each containing all rendering intents to ensure you
the highest level of flexibility in your workflow.
The accessory pack comes with the following pieces:
-System Case: Holds & protects both DTP20 (Pulse), DTP94 (OptixXR), and all
accessories. The case actually has quite a bit of storage and I routinely
pack it with other computer accessories
-Pulse Backer board: Provides industry standard black or white measuring
surfaces and media security clips to hold your target in place while
scanning.
-Spot Measuring Shoe: Considering that the pathfinder already has spot
measurement markings, this shoe is more of a convenience feature for those
who would like to use the device for more frequent color samples and may
wish to build color libraries.
-Fast Charger: Again, this is a convenience feature as the Pulse will
trickle charge through the USB cable. The fast charger decreases the
charging time to energize the device and ensures that samples can be
measured - even if your battery is completely drained.
-ColorshopX: This is a cross-platform that helps users better understand
color in a workflow and provides a selection of tools to analyze color in
graphs, forecast color numerically, and manage libraries of color including
Pantone books.
-Some of the things you might do in ColorshopX:
-View CMYK construction of grays to better understand how grays are built in
a profile (which might suggest different settings in your profile building
app)
-View 3D "Hex Plots" of your CMYK device to understand the condiiton of the
device on which a profile was built (linear/not linear)
-Build custom workflow profiles including Links, Grayscale, Rich Balck, and
Named Color Profiles (NCP)
-Compute dE of an out-of-gamut color to a device
-Build color palettes and export them for sharing them in your workflow
-Compute DotArea/Dot Gain/Print Contrast for a given ink on paper
-And more.....
The accessory pack does cost $200 and it available in pieces - although it's
cheaper to get everything together. Each piece of the accessory kit is
included to provide the highest level of functionality and convenience with
the Pulse ColorElite system.
If there are any addition questions regarding the Pulse that any of you
would like to talk with me about directly, I invite you to contact me off
line.
Best regards,
Marc
