I believe that you get more than "essentially useless software" - you
get the extremely effective backing plate AND you get the mains
adapter, I think. AFAIK without the mains adapter you can't use Pulse,
eben tethered, until the batteries are charged.
All companies seem to love shooting themselves in the feet by
"optioning out" their essential advantages. In the case of Pulse this
means the ease of use.
Salami-slicing the required equipment list seems a specialty with CMS
product makers; however in one sense I find it delightful as it means
UV filters are usually left out of the "standard" model and I believe
in measuring wihtout filtering the illuminant.
As for the optional case, that comes with the Pulse accessory kit, I
have a cardboard box with a spectro and about 10 pieces of kit
floating around here - the company (NOT Xrite) that sold me the
spectro for about $2K was to cheap to donate a case, in fact the case
was only marketed long after I bought the device ;)
Why are these marketing guys all so cheap ?
Edmund
