My Photoshop and Illustrator Color Settings are both using the Adobe
RGB (1998) Color Space (CMYK – US Sheetfed Coated v2). The Engine is
set to Adobe (ACE) on both apps and the Intent is set to Relative

The only difference is that the Color Management Policies for
Photoshop are RGB: Preserve Embedded, CMYK: Off, Gray: Off, and the
Color Management Policies for Illustrator are RGB: Off, CMYK: Preserve
Embedded Profile.
I am using Photoshop Version CS and Illustrator Version 10. The
difference in the two images seems to be that the Illustrator version
is lighter and less saturated than the Photoshop version. The image
was created in Photoshop and I imported it into Illustrator using the
“Place” command.
Does the image have an embedded profile and if so what is it? I'm not
going to assume it's Adobe RGB (1998) just because that's the RGB
Working Space in Photoshop, because you have it set to preserve
embedded profiles for RGB. That means it's possible the source profile
is something other than Adobe RGB (1998). If it is, then it's being
ignored in favor of Adobe RGB (1998) when you place the file in
Illustrator because for some reason you have the RGB color management
policy in Illustrator set to Off - which I would recommend changing to
preserve embedded profiles. The color management policy affects the
Place command's behavior.
