I suggest you don't manage color through ColorSync on your HP if you
have
any of the Creative Suite applications! Just manage color on the host
and
use the printer as a "dumb" but repeatable device. That's how I print
to the
Xerox, and even an HP laser.
I don't think he's using Adobe applications, but rather mostly Cocoa
applications. Therefore he has to depend on OS-level color management.
I think the ducks are all in a row in his situation except that the
driver settings aren't set the same way as when HP built the CMYK ICC
profile and that's why it prints too dark. Uli needs to find out what
the proper driver settings are FOR THAT PROFILE. And even then it's
possible he'll need a custom profile. Laser printers are notoriously
inconsistent without external hardware based calibration at least a
couple times per day.
