Hello John,
Which gamut mapping option
did you use in ProfileMaker ?
if you want to get a good reproduction with lots of out of
gamut colours, you should use the 'colorful' gamut mapping option. Also make
sure you have PM version 5.02 (there is an improvement in the colorful gamut
mapping between 5.0 and 5.02).
My experience is that monaco gets a little more 'power' in
the image by killing some details in the dark areas (just like a
slight contrast boost would do). Gretag output is slightly flatter but better
maintains the overall detail balance.
Its just a question of preference there, and the
performance can be very dependent on the image you are
printing.
But if you used a classic mapping or a ChromaPlus
mapping in ProfileMaker, then you get a flatter output, but colorimetrically
much closer to the original. Monaco and PM colorful give away some
color accuracy (i.e. 'perceived hue'
accuracy) for better saturation.

Has anyone compared these two
Packages ?
I am using PMP 5.0 and
every now and then on images that have a lot of out of Gamut colors the
conversion
look Bad. I have a profile
made form Monaco 4.7 that on the same file looks great.
What's Monaco doing different in its Mapping that
Gretag isn't ??
The RGB image is
in Adobe 1998 ,PMP flattens the image out and Monaco looks GREAT!
Its in a fleshtone that's the real kicker,PMP
no detail flat and sanded Monaco is fine ? any Ideas ?
Can I Buy the Monaco in just a Printer Profiler package
? and How much ?
John
