This is the way I explain it - as with most analogies its not entirely
correct, but most people seem to get the message.
5000K is like the identikit picture of a bank robber you see on the
news. Its an approximation; dependent on the accuracy of the witnesses
(which you could describe as the CRI of the picture).
D50 is the DNA of said bank robber picked up by the CSI: (insert city
here) - its unique and almost impossible to reproduce.
Therefore you can buy 5000K lights, but not D50 ones.
