Please explain how one sends a [press profile] to a customer that will reflect their press conditions.
We have an Epson 10600 used for contract proofing that is profiled to match our (Mitsubish 3000F). This press is our benchmark for the other presses in the shop. The densities are set to give us the highest gamut within our shop. They are within "industry swop standards". Instead of profiling for every other press (Manroland, Heidelberg 46", 45", etc.), we apply a curve when plating to control the gain. The curve is determined by the press as each press has a different amount of gain.
My question is based on the conversations below ...

Posted Question:
I'm about to send a big packaging job to China. All laid out in Illustrator
AiCS with all placed images in sRGB. I don't have a profile for the chinese
press this job will be printed on. All I know is it will be ran at 150 line
screen and that's about it. I've been showing all along proofs to my client
simulating US WebCoatedSWOP v2, the only sensible choice under the
circumstances.
Now, at the eleventh hour, when I'm about to commit the whole thing to CD
for my client to Fedex over to China with my color proofs, I feel like
chickening out -- convert all my placed sRGB images to CMYK -- just in case
something happens... Something WILL happen for sure. But am I hedging my
bets better by converting or should I send the whole thing as is?

Roger,
I have had jobs printed in China and I would suggest another option first.
Make contact with the Chinese printing firm and INSIST on them sending you
the profile that reflects their press conditions.
You might, at first attempt, get a puzzled response but I would bet that they have output profiles (if they are a big print shop) and with some perseverance you will be rewarded.
Only after they email you their press profile, I would convert and send.
I can send you the CTPS & Everbest profiles if either of those are the companies are printing your job
Good luck.
Cheers
