As I wrote, I'm using not the CLJ ppd, but another rip. Although

This is strange. As far as I understood Apple, you can't select an
RGB profile for any PPD that only registers as CMYK. This has
presumably nothing to do with the specific CLJ PPD.
It lists RGB profiles, but if you select one, you hear an error sound
and the profile set remains unchanged.
Well, Rolf sent me his PPD, and with this PPD, you do indeed *not* hear
an error sound, and can actually select an RGB profile.
The reason seems to be that this PPD is very old (1996) and does not
include default profile settings.
As soon as you add the line
*cupsICCProfile CMYK../CMYK Matching Profile:
"/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/some_profile.icc"
to the PPD, ColorSync refuses to select an RGB profile and beeps.
