I was about to
calculate separate mean L*, mean a* and mean b* but it then occurred to me
that the results of this would be meaningless. Why? Because Lab triplets
representing 3D coordinates. So, it's the average of the 3D coordinates I
want -- not the individual L, a, b averages.
Isn't the mean of each individual dimension, taken together, the same as the mean of the 3D coordinates? I think you are doing it right. I don't see how creating a matrix will change anything. You will still need the mean of each individual dimension to get the mean coordinates.
